Brodie Lee. 3 days from now marks one year since Jon Huber passed away.
Personally, I remember waking up at around 10am on that morning and opening Instagram. I saw the graphic WWE posted "WWE is saddened to learn that Jon Huber, known to WWE fans as Luke Harper has passed away today aged 41." I froze. I remember scrolling through my feed as it was flooded with posts about Brodie and I just couldn't believe it. I think I cried for almost an hour just thinking about it.
I've been a wrestling fan for my whole life, probably since I could even walk. I've seen a lot of those graphics about wrestlers passing away, but nothing has hit me harder than Brodie passing. I think that is a testament to the person Brodie was. A guy who I'd never met, who lived on the other side of the world who didn't even know I existed, his passing had a massive impact on me. That feeling of receiving that news, is a feeling I'll never forget.

To many he was Brodie Lee or Luke Harper, but to many he was also just Jon. He started his career like a lot of guys from his generation, backyard wrestling. His name was Huberboy #2. He eventually got training in Rochester, NY, his hometown by two guys by the names of Kirby Marcos and Rik Matrix. He then wrestled for Roc City Wrestler under his Huberboy #2 name, then later began wrestling under the name Brodie Lee.
From 2007-2012, Brodie wrestled all over the country for promotions such as Chikara, ROH, and 2CW.
In 2012 Brodie than signed a developmental deal with WWE and was given the name Luke Harper and wrestled for FCW - WWE's developmental territory which soon became NXT. Harper than began his career in NXT alongside Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan, the faction known as The Wyatt Family. Harper was apart of the Wyatt Family for 3 years during which he earned the NXT Tag Team Championships alongside Rowan.
Harper achieved singles success after leaving the Wyatt Family winning the Intercontinental Championship on November 17, 2014. While staying quiet for a while he became a main event fixture in early 2017 involved in the WWE Championship feud between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt, with many fans wanting Harper to win the WWE Championship. However the momentum was lost as quickly as it was gained and Harper again disappeared for a few months only to return in October once again alongside Rowan, this time as the Bludgeon Brothers. They reigned over the Smackdown Tag Team division which culminated with them winning the Smackdown Tag Team titles at WrestleMania 34. Rowan was injured during the match in which they lost their titles therefore leaving Harper without a partner, and any creative direction. His appearances became sporadic, and most of which were live events until April 16, 2019, he requested his release from his WWE contract. He returned to television with Rowan feuding with the likes of Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns until he was released from his contract on December 8 of the same year.
Lee then debuted on the March 18 episode of Dynamite as he was revealed as the heavily teased "Exalted One", the leader of the Dark Order faction. He would enter a short feud with Christopher Daniels before beginning a feud with Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. He was unsuccessful during that match. On August 22, he answered Cody's open challenge for the TNT Championship which he won in convincing fashion, only to drop the belt to Cody 2 months later. This would be his last match in AEW.
Seeing what AEW is doing with Brodie Jr. is really something special. They did a tribute show in Rochester, NY, Brodie's hometown and has Brodie Jr. come out and throw paper at Evil Uno which was a nod to his BTE (Being The Elite) segments. It honestly brought tears to my eyes,
I'm not going to get into the details of his death, however what I want to talk about is his impact on the industry, and more importantly the people in it. In his career he came across a lot of people, and he touched every single one of them. All the tributes, the posts, the heartfelt messages all had the common message of just simply how Jon Huber was one of the greatest people to ever walk the planet Earth. While what he did inside the ring was on a whole different level, who he was outside the ring was one of a kind.
Brodie impacted me without me realising it. I got to see him perform live a couple months before he was released. During his whole career he just had the incredible ability to have you 100% invested and enthralled in everything he said and did. Brodie Lee is a massive inspiration to me, but so is Jon Huber.
It's Friday. You know what that means. Yeah Yeah Yeah.
Thank you, Brodie. We love you. We miss you.
